WhatsApp announced the termination of support for Apple iPhones, including the iPhone 5 and 6 series in 2025.
Moreover, WhatsApp will only support iOS 15.1 from May next year, eliminating the chat platform’s compatibility with older iOS versions.
According to WABetaInfo, people using these outdated iPhone models will need to update their smartphones.
The report says, “Currently, WhatsApp supports iOS 12 and later, but with a future update, the app will require iOS 15.1 or newer to work properly. To help affected users adapt to this change, WhatsApp is providing a five-month notice period, giving them ample time to update their devices if possible or consider alternatives if their hardware does not support newer iOS versions.”
However, the WABetaInfo unveiled the reason behind restricting the service for conventional iOS. Apple is introducing upgraded iOS versions with APIs and improved technologies. So, WhatsApp will rely on delivering new features for advanced versions that will not be possible with outdated operating systems. As a result, WhatsApp will not be able to cooperate with iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus models.
MacRumors also highlighted the quick tips for users before the service was severely restricted. Individuals who intend to upgrade their devices must back up WhatsApp chats to iCloud. Using WhatsApp’s s Chat Transfer feature, you can restore full media history on other smartphones. WhatsApp Help Center guides what you need to transfer your data with simple steps.
Hence, if you are using iPhone 5 or 6 lineups, start switching up to an alternative device for WhatsApp.
