On December 9, OpenAI announced the release of Sora would be available for everyone in the US.
Sora is an AI platform that generates AI videos from written prompts. Open AI tech giant is popularly known for its chatbot ChatGPT. The firm is also working on integrating a voice cloning tool and AI image generator Dall-E into ChatGPT.
OpenAI wrote in a blog post, “We hope this early version of Sora will enable people everywhere to explore new forms of creativity, tell their stories, and push the boundaries of what’s possible with video storytelling. We’re excited to see what the world will create with Sora.”
Previously, Open AI introduced Sora in February, but it was only available for feedback and reviews from artists, filmmakers, and safety testers. However, a group of artists criticizes Open AI’s Sora on the Hugging Face website. They claimed the firm’s “art washing” product would clean up the livelihood of artists. The controversy resulted in suspending the early access to the tool.
Interestingly, Open AI offers text, images, and videos to easily add the prompts to Sora. Users can generate videos up to 1080p resolution with different aspect ratios. Sora can create 50 videos at 420p or a few videos at 720p up to 20 seconds long. Hence, the Pro plan will include higher resolutions, more video, and longer durations.
Open AI also confirmed the working of Sora Turbo, which is faster than the February preview Sora. The company aims to make the tool affordable for everyone. Sora is deployed with many limitations to prevent child sexual abuse materials and sexual deepfakes. It intends to safeguard privacy policies and monitor safety continuously.
