Steps to recover your Google account

Google spokesperson, Ross Richendrfer, unveiled useful tips to regain your Google hacked account.

According to a Forbes blog post, hackers usually use common methodologies to take control of someone’s account. For example, they compromised a Google account and added a security key or passkey to prevent its access to the original owner.

Hence, Ross advised that account holders must use security keys or passkeys to prevent hacking rather than using 2FA. “Google research has shown that security keys provide a stronger protection against automated bots, bulk phishing attacks, and targeted attacks than SMS, app-based one-time passwords, and other forms of traditional two-factor authentication,” he said.

Secondly, before clicking on a strange link, you have to hover your mouse on that link. This will help to reveal the real destination of the link. However, scammers are more intelligent ahead of developing strategies. Using HTML coding, they can spoof the text that pops up when you hover the link. You have to use Gmail using web browsers, where a real URL appears at the bottom of the screen. He said, “Gmail blocks more than 99.9% of spam, phishing attempts, and malware from reaching you.”

“We recommend all users to set up a recovery phone as well as a recovery email on their account,” Richendrfer said. As Google said, “Your recovery email is used to reach you in case we detect unusual activity in your account, or you accidentally get locked out.” Recovery email and mobile number can be used in case you forget passwords and someone hijacked your account. Users have 7 days to regain their Google account or Gmail from hackers.
