Google Maps new incident feature

In late July, Google announced the new feature of reporting incidents on Google Maps from Waze Communities. It is available on Android and iOS, as well as cars with Google built-in, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay.

Therefore, a Reddit user, Truckin_18 reported this incident for the first time. In Google Maps, a mobile-friendly app, he discovers the “police reported ahead” alert from the Waze drivers community. The message had a “Yes or No” attribution and “Are they still there” quote with an “X” mark for closing, otherwise, it automatically disappeared after the certain countdown.

In the official announcements, Waze stated, “We’re excited for more drivers to see reports coming from Waze. This wouldn’t be possible without our partnership with Geo, where we aim to bring the most comprehensive map data to all drivers through bi-directional data exchange (like KoiFish)…”

Moreover, Google Maps has large icons to quickly share updates about road conditions and accidents ahead of police alerts. It guides the bypass drivers on how to deal with unfamiliar situations or places. Hence, most users did not experience the newly added features.

In addition to the Google Maps features, it recommends stay places, and party hubs during your journey to make it safer and enjoyable. Google owns both Maps and Waze, but both have their own functionalities. Waze is usually used in crowdsourced environments, while Google Maps works in general conditions.

Both apps are known for their enriched facilities. Waze has over 151 million active users as of late 2022 reports, and Google Maps has around 2 billion monthly active users.

Are you excited to identify the new “Police Reported Ahead Alert” in your Google Maps?
