According to the DSCC report “Foldable Smartphone Market Stalls in 2024 and 2025”, Apple will officially enter the foldable market in 2026.
However, the report highlights the decline in foldable smartphone sales, with consumer interest slowing down. Therefore, foldable markets are in the early stages, yet the panel shipments are going down from Q3 2024 over the year.
Ross Young, the display analyst, believed that Apple’s debut in the foldable smartphone market would promote a distinct demand for foldable phones. “As a result, 2026 is expected to be a record year for foldables with over 30% growth and with over 20% growth projected for 2027 and 2028 as well.”
DSCC reported that Apple’s foldable smartphones are expected to improve customer interest. Even though Samsung foldable sales are below expectations in the year 2024, other Android brands are also not able to enhance their sales.
Why Apple? Apparently, Apple holds the dominant position in the smartphone market. The firm is known for its distinctive features and security enhancement devices. iPhone Flip could exactly have what the foldable market needs. As a result, the arrival of Apple would boost the competition for Samsung and Huawei, which holds 70% of the foldable market.
Additionally, MacRumors reported that the first iPhone Flips would be between 7.9 and 8.3 inches in size. It is assumed that the foldable iPhones would fold vertically rather than horizontally like Samsung. The design may be similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip “clamshell.” Apple’s first iPhone Flip would be a pocketable device when folded and allows for full display when unfolded.
