Apple iPhone 17 entered the first stage of manufacturing

Previous rumors unveiled that Apple plans to upgrade its next lineup with the slimmest iPhone. The iPhone 17 Air will be considered to be the slimmest iPhone to beat the iPhone 6. Being Apple’s thinnest iPhone as of 2024, the iPhone 6 has a 6.9 mm thickness.

Interestingly, the DigiTimes Asia website reported that the upcoming iPhone 17 Air has entered the new product introduction (NPI) phase. The NPI phase is the first stage of the manufacturing model.

This is the point at which Apple’s product engineers team up with the production team at Foxconn to assess how the manufacturing product is assembled and ensure that the approach process is practical. At this stage, very slight changes are made if required to lock the processed design with manufacturing capabilities.

Therefore, the leaked information indicates the September release of the iPhone 17 Air, next year. Apple aims to introduce the iPhone 17 Air with the same display as the iPhone 16 Plus but with a slimmer version. It is believed that iPhone 17 Air will be around 6 mm thick, which is 25% thinner than the standard model.

Additionally, Apple’s new slimmer flagship is expected to be a base model rather than a Pro model with just a single camera lens. Despite this, it would be the most expensive product because people intended to purchase a new, sleek design. It is also assumed that Apple targets this flagship design to imitate across the entire line-up in the future.

If the iPhone 17 Air will launch in September 2025, the expectations of a foldable iPhone also offer insight into the possible release.
